Labor Day Weekend Cheese & Burger Society Apron Giveaway

September 2nd, 2010

by Wisconsin Cheese

GIVEAWAY CLOSED

Labor Day Weekend traditionally marks the end of summer – school starts, pools begin to close and the 4th of July feels light-years away.

As that autumn breeze begins to beckon, it can only mean one thing – football tailgate season – so keep those grills burning, throw on your prized jersey, and bundle up a bit, the cheeseburger isn’t going anywhere.

To celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of fall, we’re giving away 15 Cheese & Burger Society aprons at random.

How to Enter:

We want to hear about your favorite cheeseburger to make when you tailgate. What cheeseburger is the one? The one cheeseburger that you crave. The one cheeseburger that you must eat – at every tailgate, every football party, every time you shout, cheer and scream for your team. The one cheeseburger that is victorious.

Answer the question – What is your favorite cheeseburger creation and what kind of cheese do you use on this cheeseburger?

  • 15 entries will be chosen at random.
  • Contest ends Friday, September 3 at 5 p.m. EST.
  • Winners will be notified by email.
  • One entry per household. US only.

For ideas visit CheeseAndBurger.com and coming after the holiday weekend, Favorite Foods with Chef Michael Symon. Premieres September 7 on EatWisconsinCheese.com.

We have to have Bacon, Jalapeno, Chili, Cheddar Cheese Burgers. Then we have to cheer a lot to burn off all those calories.

  2. John Wolkiewicz permalink

I love a cheese burger with coby jack cheese and thick cut applewood smoked bacon. And just a touch of chipotle flavorer mayo.

  3. Dennis permalink

Need bacon, swiss, worcestershire sauce when grilling over charcoal. Kaiser rolls, Tony Packo dill pickles.

  4. Katie Pederson permalink

Cheddar Bleu burger. Bleu cheese inside the burger, which is topped with an aged cheddar. Bacon is optional.

  5. Our tailgates are not complete w/o doubling up on Wisconsin cheeseburgers…..our own version of the juicy lucy, a burger stuffed with provolone, and topped with mozzarella, both from wisconsin, of course!

  6. Melissa permalink

We mix cracker crumbs, onions, worcestershire sauce, and cheese into the meat before making the patties. Aside from that, its got to have pickles, and its got to have mustard. And it doesn’t have to be eaten only between the 4th of July and Labor Day. :)

  7. My favorite cheeseburger is a pure beef or buffalo burger with Colby-Jack cheese, grilled onions, bacon, Sweet Baby Ray’s barbecue sauce on a toasted onion roll. Lettuce and tomato optional.

  8. Bambi M permalink

Hubby likes to toss a few jalapenos and onions on the grill to cook for his burgers.

    It’s all about the spicy!

Double with cheddar cheese, corned beef, slaw, an onion ring, tomato, pickles and home made remoulade on an onion roll. Messy but sooooo good!

My favorite burger is a huge anugs beef burger hot off the bbq w/swiss cheese, fresh hot crispy bacon, honey dijon mustard, MIRACLE WHIP (not mayo lol) and a dab of ketchup. crispy shredded lettuce is also a nice touch!! Fresh kaiser roll no bun!!!!

  11. Andy H. permalink

A great tailgate burger is one that is simple to make while out on the road. Big thick juicy seasoned patties, lots of Wisconsin Cheddar Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, and your choice of spread.

  12. Matt B permalink

I’ve got to go with a classic black and blue burger. Grind black pepper over the burgers before grilling them and sometimes I add a hint of Worcestershire sauce. Top with blue cheese and some read onion. Don’t need much on this burger; It’s got enough flavor without a lot of extras.

  13. Cheddar, sauteed onions, bacon, Coleman’s [spicy] mustard, whole (sauteed apples for me!), and of course the beef!

We like whole wheat buns or on sourdough

  14. Mix A1 and minced jalapenos into the meat. Slather some more A1 while grilling. Add Swiss cheese, sweet and sassy Famous Dave’s pickles, and onion all on kaiser buns.

  15. Grilled medium rare burger topped with sharp Cheddar, tomato, onion, avocado, pickles, mustard, ketchup, and mayo on a Kaiser roll

  16. Sean Rowley permalink

My burger has worcestershire sauce and steak rub mixed in the meat. This burger is basted with a rich dark ale or porter (Lake Louie’s works well) as it’s cooking on the grille. Then it’s topped with grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms, and Weyauwega (brand is important!) Monterey Jack cheese.

Burger is served paired with the beer used while grilling it.

  17. Jeanne Koerber permalink

Blue Cheese, Bacon and garlic aioli is my favorite. We are having a “burger cookoff” this weekend for Labor Day. There will be 8 different burgers competing. My husband is doing a burger that has dark chocolate, bacon, blue cheese and a dijon-horseradish sauce. Sounds crazy but the flavr is amazing! I’ll have to work hard to beat him.

  18. Anne Kissel Elliot permalink

Why mess around with perfection? Add a thick hunk of sharp Wisconsin cheddar cheese to a burger of lean ground sirloin and serve it on a sesame seed bun with a slice of raw sweet onion and a generous dollop of Wisconsin butter – yum!

  19. Bettison Dennis permalink

Labor day i got the hickory smoked burger with bacon, mushrooms, red onions, mayo, tomatoes, and sharp cheddar cheese.

  20. Kim Cruz permalink

My fav is the inside out burger with 4 different kinds of cheese inside. Actually, it’s whatever kinds of cheese we have on hand, but I prefer cheddar, colby, jack, and muenster. They are soooo good!

  21. William S. permalink

I love fresh ground chuck over mesquite coals with sharp cheddar, fresh roasted Hatch green chile, Peppered bacon, and mayo on a toasted onion bun.

  22. Cee S. permalink

I can never resist my blue cheese stuffed cheeseburgers. ♥ No melty cheese on the grill as it’s all tucked nice and safely inside the burger, only to ooze out slowly with every bite. And now I’m hungry. :p

  23. Mare permalink

We’re pretty simple when it comes to the cheeseburger. Ground chuck, a little onion soup mix in the patty, a great extra sharp cheddar cheese and pickles. SO good.

  24. Kayla permalink

I love a cheeseburger that is done medium rare with 2 slices of cheddar cheese on it all placed on a kaiser roll. Then its topped with all sorts of toppings like lettuce, mayo, ketchup, mustard, pickles, and one of my favorites to add is fried onions!

  25. Lisa permalink

Handmade from a 90% lean beef/freshly ground veal mix, blue cheese and herbs inside, thick sliced Munchee and bacon on top, with raw onion, banana peppers, mayo, mustard, and ketchup. :D

  26. Valerie permalink

Balsamic sauteed onions and mushrooms with roasted red peppers and blue cheese stuffed olives on a hamburger stuffed with blue cheese on an onion roll… Sunday nights dinner!

  27. Karl permalink

    The Honest Cheeseburger

A burger made with good ground chuck, seasoned and grilled to perfection. A slice of colby place on it after the last flip. Rest that burger on a good potato roll with just thin layer of mayo on the bottom. That thin layer will protect the bun and mingle with the juice of the burger to make a sauce so good it could not be bottled by mere men. Resist the urge to add anything else and let the taste of the cheese and the burger ring through.

  28. KimAnnLee permalink

Blue Cheese with bacon, sauteed onions and mushrooms.

  29. mary permalink

burger topped with bbq sauce, onion rings (if available, otherwise grilled onions) and coleslaw… YUM.

  30. Terry Smith permalink

My favorite Cheese Burger Creation is what I call the 3, 2, 1 Patty Melt.
Its two hamburger patties (quarter pounders), on grilled rye bread, with Cheddar cheese, swiss cheese, and Monterey Jack cheese, and blue cheese dressing and then grilled onions and two strips of crispy bacon.

  31. I prefer to mix in lots of cajun seasoning and Lawry’s with the hamburger meat. Then, a necessary ingredient is some Three Alarm Cheese (jalapeno, habanero, chipotle) or if none of that is around, I always have some Pepperjack! Great stuff! Cheese is what makes a burger for sure!

  32. Jen Lukenbill permalink

The burger has to have a lot of worcestershire sauce and some hamburger grilling seasoning. As for the cheese – I love cheddar cheese the most, but pepperjack is also phenomenal. Then ketchup, mustard, pickles en masse. Ohhh, yeah.

  33. E K Cloe permalink

Can’t beat the classic- American! One simple slice makes every burger better. While I enjoy all the more “deluxe” creations (like the fantastic ones @ cheeseand burger.com!), this is the easy way to quickly satisfy my cheeseburger craving.

  34. The perfect burger has Gorgonzola cheese and carmelized onions. Top that off with sauteed mushrooms and steak sauce and you have a drippy mess that is oohh so good.

  35. Vic Radin permalink

1/3 pound 92/8 ground beef, mixed with my own dry rub. Wrap with bacon and grill. Drunken Goat cheese or Sartori’s Provolone on top. On a crusty toasted roll. Slab of grilled onion, tomato, saute’d mushrooms in Merlot reduction.

  36. Susan permalink

I do a turkey burger made with ground white turkey meat with mayo and Hidden Valley dressing packet. Then I top it with blue cheese. It is the best.

  37. cathie permalink

blue cheese burger with garlic sauce is the best!

  38. Drew Angus permalink

Cheddar stuffed burger- ground beef with a mix of green onions, light seasoning and peter lugar’s sauce molded with shredded cheddar in the middle of the burger. Toss that on the grill. Delicious.

  39. Amy Norman permalink

I take 2lbs of extra lean ground beef and add my favorite seasonings such as garlic salt, pepper, onion powder, diced onions and green bell peppers. I then mix in a jar of meatloaf sauce. After patting out the burgers, I grill them on the gas grill outdoors with a slice of Smoked American cheese. They melt in your mouth. Now, I can’t wait for Labor Day to grill some more.

  40. I love a traditional patty with a garlic scallion butter melted on top then topped with cheddar, american cheese and sweet grilled onions.

  41. Chris Curtis permalink

1/4 lb. patties with garlic & onion salt, green chiles and Asadero cheese…
(oops, was I supposed to say Winsconsin?…lol)

Ground Buffalo Meat, Montreal Steak seasoning, Buffalo is higher in protein and very low in fat. Brush the grill with olive oil. Chapotle mayo, Wisconsin sharp cheddar, pineapple, tomatoe on a grilled Chiabatta roll.. Yummy!!! Put it all together and what a zing of taste!!

  43. Cori W permalink

I would have to say that blue cheese is my favorite kind of burger. For tailgating put the blue cheese inside the burger. Less messy that way.

  44. Bacon, mushroom, carmalized onions, and cheddar.
